I guess I'm a real rrokie-I'll bet practically everybody else has been to Crater Lake but me! Well' I'll bet few of you have been here in May IN TEN OR MORE FEET OF SNOW!!!!!!
We watched the steam rise from the road as the snow seemed to melt in front of our eyes....
Just to give you some perspective...Jack is sitting in front of a snowbank approx. 10 feet high
Not too many guys have the chance to fish in Crater Lake-Jack hooked a big one! Tee Hee...
this is what the Lake looked like as we approached-it was weird walking on the snow and I held on tight to Jack....
But the clouds parted and gave us an awesome view of the Lake
The gift shop and cafe is open all year round except Thanksgiving, Christmas and days when the snowplow couldn't get to them...This year they had 5 snow days. This is the Lodge-just opened last week....run by Xanterra, the same concessionaire that runs a lot of the National parks.
This is the view from the dining room at the lodge. We had a scrumptious lunch of French Onion Soup and Halibut and watched as the weather changed, sometimes snowing, sometimes sleeting and always interesting! Out Waitress went to school at the University of Hawaii. had taken some time off to travel and was a first timer at Crater Lake...Smart girl!
Most of the buildings are still closed...I wonder why?
We didn't want to get stuck up there and need a bobsled to get down, so we left the beautiful, stunning, unusual view of Crater Lake.
